TRANSPORTATION / CIVIL ENGINEERING
Transport infrastructures are the pulsating lifelines of our modern society. Designing of roads and railways and their maintenance require interdisciplinary actions. Especially when building under operation requires proven abilities, which Heierli AG can provide.
Our business division Traffic & Civil Underground provides, from strategic planning and preliminary studies, preparation and construction projects, procurement and the actual implementation, including construction management, all phases of civil engineering.
The focus is on large-scale infrastructure projects such as national and cantonal road construction or regional road-rail projects. We also have great competencies in municipal civil engineering, the maintenance of infrastructure, including consultancy services.
Due to many years of experience, we have proven competence in the areas of:
- Projectmanagement of civil engineering projects
- Design and realization of roads with highways standards
- Design and realization of roads with canton standards
- Design and realization of roads with municipal standards
- Project planning and realization of works in the inner city, but also along motorways
- Maintenance and renewal of infrastructure, especially roads and bridges
- Design and realization of noise protection measures
- Dimensioning of the road superstructure and coating
- Hydraulically bound bearing layers
- Test engineer tasks in road construction and civil engineering
- Expertise in road construction and civil engineering

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Structural and Geotechnical Engineering
Building construction plays a defining role in shaping our landscapes and societies. As engineers, we take responsibility for the structural safety, functionality, and durability of infrastructure. Heierli AG supports architects and developers in the realization of complex projects.
Structural Engineering
Our structural engineering division covers all aspects of structural design, from strategic planning and competition phases to feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design, tendering, and project execution. In addition to traditional building and industrial construction, we provide solutions in bridge construction and rehabilitation, asset preservation, and client advisory services.
Our in-house measurement technology supports this field by providing surveying, structural positioning, and vibration analysis for load-bearing structures, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Geotechnical & Special Foundation Engineering
Our geotechnical and special foundation engineering division focuses on specialized areas of civil engineering. These structures often go unnoticed but are essential for the safe and efficient functioning of society. Planning and executing special foundation projects require an interdisciplinary approach, supported by in-depth analysis and extensive expertise.
We also manage projects related to earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. Additionally, we possess specialized expertise in geotechnics, particularly in retaining structures and water-adjacent infrastructure.
Over the past decades, we have built strong expertise in structural engineering. Our extensive project management experience ensures that this knowledge directly benefits our clients.
Additional Expertise
Beyond our core competencies in structural and geotechnical engineering, we offer specialized expertise in the following areas:
- Concrete restoration for heritage-listed buildings
- New construction and renovations of public buildings (e.g., schools, senior living centers)
- Energy-efficient buildings (Minergie, Minergie-Eco-P, zero-emission)
- Renovation and construction of river pools, outdoor pools, and indoor swimming facilities
- Comprehensive rehabilitation of underground parking facilities
- Bridge restoration and reconstruction under operational conditions, including bridge launching
- Timber construction
- Structural assessments and expert evaluations
- Seismic analysis and earthquake retrofitting
- Retaining structures and landslide remediation (roads, railways, buildings, etc.), including structural monitoring
- Excavation security and retaining structures
- Load-bearing structures in or near water
- In-house condition assessments with professional divers
- Fire protection planning (QSS 2 certification)
- Support for soil displacement projects
- Surveying services
- Condition assessments, crack monitoring, vibration monitoring, and structural health monitoring

RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION
The railway construction division encompasses all aspects of infrastructure development related to railway construction. Planning and implementing railway projects require an interdisciplinary approach based on in-depth analysis and extensive expertise.
Every infrastructure project has its own unique characteristics. We recognize and actively tackle today’s challenges in railway infrastructure construction through:
- Designing approval-ready and cost-effective railway construction solutions
- Developing sustainable, durable, and resource-efficient solutions
- Creating and implementing smart, holistic solutions in railway construction
- Designing and refining efficient yet safe solutions under challenging conditions, such as construction during ongoing operations
With our proven project management expertise, we collaborate in a team-oriented manner to deliver optimal solutions for our clients in the following areas:
- Railway projects & railway technology
- Slab track (ballastless track systems) in tunnels and on bridges
- Civil engineering consultancy, expert assessments, and structural engineering mandates
- Ballast construction, track substructure, and embankments
- Vibration and structure-borne noise protection in railway construction using mass-spring systems
- Retaining structures and landslide remediation along railway infrastructure
- Platforms, bridges, and culverts within track areas, including renovation and renewal
- Structural monitoring
- Vibration and impact measurements, including mitigation planning

PROTECTION TECHNOLOGY
Only with a well-founded risk assessment can the required safety and the corresponding protective measures be ensured.
The protection of people, goods, functions and the environment is the focus of our efforts. In addition to the protection against gravitational natural hazards (flood, debris, landslides and avalanches), we are dealing with human active dangers, e.g. Sabotage, terrorism and armed conflicts.
We process the entire risk process from the definition of the hazard to the determination of the occurrence probabilities and the resulting risks. Risk analysis, risk planning and implementation as well as controlling are carried out in close cooperation with our customers. Deepened know-how is available to our customers in the following areas.
Risk management:
- Hazard analyzes and determination of possible occurrence of natural hazards and human hazards
- Risk assessment and safety advice
- Protection concepts with action planning for all project phases
- Protection against weapons impact
- Constructional protection against weapons for whole systems and individual objects against sabotage, terror and armed conflicts
- Solution concepts, planning to implement protective measures against effects of shock and pressure from impact of various weapons
- Instructions for the construction, operation, maintenance and liquidation of protective structures
Protection against gravitational hazards:
- Questions in the field of water management
- Revitalization studies of streams and rivers
- Planning and realization of flood protection measures
- Recording and measurement of slope slides
- Planning and implementation of slope protection measures
